Form, struktur og kursusindstilling.

Avnø højskole er en del af den spirende økolandsby, Avnø Oasis, som udover skolen består af 2 andre projekter: Et bofællesskab og Grønne virksomheder, begge stadig i opstartsfasen. Disse helt unikke rammer giver et kreativt læringsmiljø i bevidst og aktiv interaktion med mennesker, der er forpligtet til at være en del af løsningen. I løbet af kurset danner de studerende et eget fællesskab, som til en vis grad vil blive integreret i Avnø Oasis.

For at uddybe fællesskabsfølelsen gennem hele forløbet samskaber eleverne morgenøvelser, aften- og weekendaktiviteter samt planer for rengøring & køkkenservice sammen med frivillige, beboere og personale, hvor det er relevant. Den gennemprøvede selvorganiserende metode for sociokrati vil sikre, at alle føler sig hørt, og at aktiviteter i perioden stemmer overens med gruppens behov og værdier.

I modulerne vil de mere komplekse spørgsmål om SUNDHED, LYKKE OG GRØNNE LIV blive behandlet fra mange forskellige perspektiver, herunder ekspertpræsentationer, dialog, elevernes input, videndeling, udveksling af erfaringer og erfaringsbaseret læring gennem praktiske erfaringer, øvelser og projektdesign og implementering. Ved at bruge SDG’erne (Sustainable Development Goals), vil vi få en dybere forståelse af mekanismerne bag centrale aktuelle globale problemer.

Undervisningen vil foregå på dansk med engelsk oversættelse eller engelsk med dansk oversættelse.

Morning session

The morning session start with the morning assembly, where we sing a song and important informations for the day will be given. Immediately after Module 1 starts.

Module 1 focus on the more theoretical aspects of earth care, people care and fair share, which is known as the ethics of Permaculture. There will be presentations on

  • Worldview. Aim: to master your own life.
    Content: Nature, culture, self-reflection tools, personal & spiritual development, art, permaculture design principles, macrobiotic principles, integral theory, spiral dynamics, inner transition and more to gain a deeper understanding of how life works and how you can master your own life.
  • Community building. Aim: To be a valuable co-player in community.
    Content: Sociocracy (a decision making tool, which distributes power rather than centralizing it) and other community tools from the CLIPS program, hereunder conflict resolution, dragon dreaming and compassionate communication (NVC).
  • Ecology. Aim: To be able to live in a more sustainable way.
    Content: Using permaculture design principles in regards to growing food, ecological building, green energy, water management etc.
  • Economy, ownership, organization & green entrepreneurship. Aim: To co-design green livelihoods, social economic systems and more.
    Content: Economy and money – how does it work. Green economy. Designing local economic systems. Linking economy and ecology. Social economic enterprises. Ownership and organisation. Permaculture ethics – earth care, people care and fair share. Empowered fundraising.
  • Health and wellness. Aim: To be able to use food, lifestyle, thoughts, body treatment and movement to (re)create health.
    Content: The see-saw of damage and repair. Macrobiotic principles. Epigenetics. Body-mind-spirit connection. Self diagnosis. Food. Lifestyle. Movement. Massage.

Afternoon session

Module 2
This modul is an action module. The aim is to integrate what you have learned in module 1 and develop associated skills by working on practical projects, making decisions relevant for the student community, or doing group work to dive deeper into a subject, design personal or communal projects.

In the beginning you will be involved in designing and implementing projects already existing in the Avnø Oasis community. Students form groups together with more experienced community members and committed volunteers to learn and practice practical skills.

Examples on projects: Forestgarden, Café, Optimizing our energy consumption (renewable energy, CO2 negative heating etc), Avnø Oasis cookbook, Green commercial Kitchen (redesigning the kitchen at Avnø Oasis). New projects emerge, some lay idle in some periods, and others may already be implemented, when your course starts, so this list is by no means complete.

Besides the actual project implementation the outcome of this module will be articles, short films, multimedia presentations, exhibitions, performances and other local initiatives to share the insights and performance.


Evening & Weekend activities

Evening and weekend activities are planned week by week in collaboration between students, volunteers, residents and teachers where appropriate.


Bonus

Students on the HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND GREEN LIVING course, who wants to dive deeper into particular subjects, are welcome to participate in on our short courses for half price.

How much does it cost

Single room

Euro 325 / per week
For the whole period: 3.900 Euro

2 person room

Euro 240 / week
For the whole period: 2880 Euro

For the whole period: 2.400 Euro

Additional fees may apply for excursions and certain materials in some elective or student organised subjects / activities / projects.

Transport to and from the station, private use of the car, snacks purchased in the shop etc. are private cost, which you are responsible for.

Registration fee of 2000 DKK / 270 Euro to be paid to secure your place as soon as you are accepted.

Deposit: 2250 DKK / 300 Euro to be paid at arrival. Will be paid back when your keys are given back, and you have left your room in a clean and nice condition for the next person.

LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY

During the term, you will have the chance to share your culture at cultural evenings, cultural cafés and theme weeks. It is possible to invite the local community for these events.

Expected Outcome

  • You’ll have learned the permaculture design principles and gained experience in using them to design various aspect of life, such as home, career, health, a community, a garden, an economic system, a kitchen etc. You will not have a PDC certificate, since there is no permaculture diploma teacher available through out the course, but you will have a similar level of knowledge.

  • You’ll have been through a similar curriculum as on the EDE (Ecovillage Design Education) courses, but have gained a lot more practical experience.

  • You’ll have learned the basic macrobiotic principles and know how to apply them in your life.

  • You’ll have some practical tools for self reflection

  • You’ll know what you are passionate about and good at.

  • You’ll be more aware about what’s really important to you and be able to take charge over your life on a whole different level

  • You’ll have an expansive network of friends and colleagues from different corners of the world.

  • You’ll be better at expressing your self and better at listening

  • You’ll be more able to deal with strong (negative or positive) emotions in your self and others.

  • You’ll feel a deeper connection to Self and Nature and be more aware about how everything is interconnected, e.g. mind, body, relationships, culture, food, climate change, economic system, social (un)justice etc.


  • Your ability to create authentic relationships with others, stand up for your self and express yourself will be greatly improved.

  • You’ll be able to design your own healthy diet plan and have the option to be trained to assist others in making theirs.


  • You’ll have the option to develop some skills as a vegan or macrobiotic chef.

About the origin of Health, Happiness and Green Living

Kristiane Ravn Frost

Together with other people, engaged in the Avnø Oasis project, Kristiane developed the HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND GREEN LIVING studies in the spring of 2022 with the intention of creating a comprehensive 12 week program that would give people skills to take well care of themselves and at the same time go out and start green projects on their own.

Thus the course is a compilation of the knowledge you normally would have to attend a PDC (Permaculture Design Certificate Course) and an EDE (Ecovillage Design Education) to get combined with Kristiane’s comprehensive approach to health and personal transformation.

It is structured so that those who wants to dive deeper into the health and personal development parts of this course can choose to participate in optional short courses, running partly through the week and partly in weekends.
